Nexus Wins Corporate Social Responsibility Category at Exeter Business Awards
We’re extremely excited to announce we've won the Corporate Social Responsibility category at the Exeter Business Awards on Friday.
Operations Director John Brett commented;
It felt great to be shortlisted for the award and have our efforts within our community recognised. Winning the award was a great privilege and a fitting reward for the whole team who’ve helped make a difference for so many good causes over the last 12 months. Being part of, and supporting, the local community is hugely important to the whole Nexus team.
I’m proud to say that we play our part, but I think we need to recognise all the businesses and organisations across Devon who do outstanding things to help the wellbeing of their communities. Together we make Devon a great place to live and do business and somewhere people across the UK aspire to visit and experience.
Last year we celebrated our 20th birthday (“The Big 20 – Giving back to the community), this was an ideal opportunity for us to do something special. I’m a relatively new member of the Nexus team but seeing how involved and willing the team are I setup a corporate responsibility initiative to identify community-based activities where Nexus could devote staff time, money, equipment and support to assist individuals and charitable organisations across Devon.
Social responsibility and the local community are an essential part of our core values. With our 20th celebrations giving back to the community being a springboard to launch a cultural change and a new ethos within the organisation. Throughout 2019 – 2020 we plan to continue expanding on our commitment to working with local charities, selecting activities which have the most significant social impact for the groups involved. We have a range of activities planned including our weekly donation of time to Exeter based charity St Petrocks, beach cleans (we’ve cleaned over 80KG of plastic waste from Dawlish Warren in the last 12 months), sponsored 50KM walks, 100 mile coast to coast bike rides, team triathlon, coffee mornings, cream teas for cancer and social activities focused on raising funds and awareness for local charities.
Company directors have been very supportive and active with the activities, we have at least one director taking part in every event which has been great for staff morale. Having a director work with you picking up litter, walking the coast path of Devon, raising sponsorship or donating funds to ensure charities reach their targets has been great for creating a one-team environment.
Now the big 20 is over what now? Well… I personally don’t remember getting to excited about my 20th birthday (yes it was a while ago), it was all about reaching 21! so watch this space…
